Energy Use

To firstly monitor, then implement carbon reduction schemes across site the Carbon Trust were employed to report on energy usage.

All main objectives for carbon reduction are on track for successful completion and include:

• Monitoring and promotion of Carbon Footprint internally and externally
• Active programme to reduce Carbon Footprint
• To offset remaining carbon120 trees per annum to be planted over the next 3 years

Use of electricity makes up the largest proportion of our carbon footprint.  In 2008 we achieved our target of reducing usage by 5% across site.

Energy consumption has been reduced by:

• Installation of reactive lighting fitted across site
• Improved insulation on all heated buildings
• Replaced light bulbs with low energy options
• Turn-it-off policy in place
• Natural daylight utilised where possible
• Water heaters turned off when not in use
• Radiator insulation panels fitted across site
